GATE Syllabus

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a computer-based test to get admission to Master’s Programs and apply for Public Sector Jobs in India. The GATE exam is conducted by the 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) – Madras, Kharagpur, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Bombay, and Roorkee) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.

GATE Syllabus

Understanding the GATE Syllabus is very important to get a clear idea about the subjects and topics covered in the GATE exams. It also helps students to plan their study routine as per the syllabus to crack the exam successfully. The GATE Syllabus is very much similar to other competitive exams in India. There are four major sections;

  1. Verbal Ability
  2. Numerical Ability
  3. Engineering Mathematics
  4. Technical Ability

Verbal Ability: English Grammar, Sentence Completion, Verbal analogies, word groups, instructions, critical reasoning and verbal deduction.

Numerical Ability: Numerical computation, numerical estimation, numerical reasoning and data interpretation.

Engineering Mathematics (not for all Papers)

Technical Ability: Technical questions related to your Paper.

The New GATE 2023 Syllabus

The new GATE syllabus will help students to know about the core topics covered under various sections of a subject. The GATE exam 2023 is of a total of 29 papers. A candidate can appear for either 1 or a maximum of 2 papers in the examination. A candidate can not select the 2nd paper from the pre-defined Combination of Two papers.

Each of the GATE papers is worth 100 marks. The General Aptitude (GA) is common for all papers, which is 15 marks, and the rest of the paper is 85 marks.
