The CBSE has released a notice to allow students who took mathematics standard in Class 10 to choose mathematics in Class 11. Previously CBSE, in its January 2019 circular, introduced two levels of mathematics for the All India Secondary School Examination from the academic session ending March 2020 onwards due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced a recent circular to extend the provision to allow students who studied Mathematics Standard in Class 10th to opt for Mathematics in Class 11th for the academic year 2023-24.
Earlier on January 10 2019, during the Covid-19 outbreak, CBSE introduced two-level mathematics for the All India Secondary School Examination beginning with the academic session ending in March 2020.
CBSE’s recent announcement coincides with the ongoing CBSE Class 11 admissions. Students can check the detailed notification on the official website of the CBSE at cbse.gov.in.
“Students who offered mathematics basic (241) in Class 10 are allowed to offer only applied mathematics in Class 11. For the academic year 2023–2024, the board has extended the restriction. Students who were given the option of doing mathematics basic (241) will therefore be able to choose mathematics (041) in Class 11. However, before permitting mathematics in Class 11 to such students, the Head of the Institution should satisfy that the students have the aptitude and ability to pursue mathematics in Class 11,” CBSE in a circular said.
“This exemption is being given as a special measure to facilitate the present batch, i.e. 2023-2024 of students of class XI. However, it is clarified that circular dated 10.1.2019 will be applicable from the 2024-25 session,” the board said.
