Tenses in English grammer




Present tense:

Present Indifinite tense-

It is the simple present tense. In this any work/action only mentioned.

Example: I live.

Present continious tense-

Any work/action is still going on.

Structure:

Subject + am/is/are + verb + ing + Object
Example: I am living.

Present perfect tense-

Any work/action is complete but result of it is in present.

Structure:

Subject + has/have + verb + Object
Example: I have lived.

Present perfect continious tense-

Anything related to past,present and future.

Structure:

Subject + has been/have been + verb + ing + Object
Example: I have been living.

Past tense:

Past indifinite tense-

Any work/action taken place in past.

Structure:

Subject + was/were + Object or Subject + verb + Object
Example: I lived.

Past continious tense-

Any work/action was on going for a certain period of time in the past.

Structure:

Subject + was/were + verb + ing + Object
Example: I was living.

Past perfect tense-

Any work/action happened before another action/work in the past.

Structure:

Subject + had + verb + object + Simple past of next sentense
Example: I had lived.

Past perfect continious tense-

Any work/action started in the past and continued until another unknow time in the past.

Structure:

Subject + had been + verb + ing + Object
Example: I had been living.

Future tense:

Future indifinite tense-

Any work/action will happen in future.

Structure:

Subject + shall/will + verb + Object
Example: I shall live.

Future continious-

Any work/action at a particular moment of the future.

Structure:

Subject + shall be/will be + verb + ing + Object
Example: I shall be living.

Future perfect tense-

Any work/action will occur before another action/work in the future.

Structure:

Subject + shall have/will have + verb + Object
Example: I shall have lived.

Future perfect continious tense-

Any work/action will happen before some other future event.

Structure:

Subject + shall have been/will have been + verb + ing+ Object
Example: I shall have been living.
